I don't own a macro lens but have a cheap screw-on adapter. That's what I shot this little figurine with. I think we got this guy in Costa Rica.

I was going to go with a Daily Shoot topic (diagonals) but decided to go with the back to school shot today.

Riley has been fighting a bad, bad cold and you can see some of the results above his lip. He's been blowing his nose a ton and after seeing him tonight, this picture of his lip actually looks good.

Third grade for Hay, first for Riley. From what I heard, it was a great day!

Daily Shoot: Make a photograph of something cold today. Ice cubes, frosty beverages, or the freezer aisle at the grocery store.

I was gonna take a picture of Riley today, because, wouldn't you know it, on the day before school, he comes down with a major snot-filled cold. But then I figured I had enough Riley pictures lately so here you go. Otter Pops.

Another Daily Shoot post. Makes life a little easier, I suppose.

Here's the topic: Use repetition to create an interesting photograph today. Grids, patterns, or a series of lines will all do the trick.

Whether or not this is interesting remains to be seen. Anyone know what it is?

A Daily Shoot photo. Today's subject: Make a photograph of something metallic today. Put the emphasis on texture and light.

I shot these spoons in our utensil drawer. No lights and lit with a flash on camera (not OCF, though).

Today's Daily Shoot topic: Make a photo of a tool today. Screwdriver. Pliers. Computer. What's the tool you find most important on a daily basis?

I don't use it daily, but it was on my desk. The sun was blasting through a window and I had a handy orange folder to use as a backdrop.

Best part? I didn't have to think of what to shoot. :)

Is it over yet? I am starting to hit the wall with ideas. I may jump over to the Daily Shoot for ideas. Malcolm's been doing it and I'm leaning towards that for things to do.

Today it's the handle to my mom's garage door opener. EXCITING, ISN'T IT?

As I got to the car today, these exercisers ran by. I wanted to catch them but I couldn't dial up the settings fast enough (specifically the f-stop), hence the 2.0 and the super fast shutter.

An old high school friend of mine is a ninja photog and takes these incredible candid street shots. Though I wish the people were in clear focus, I did like the different layers of focus.

There's the foreground bushes, the in focus tree, the table, the people, the bus, and the building.

It's a mess, but I thought it looked kinda cool.

Riley had a birthday weekend to remember. A great party yesterday, presents pretty much all weekend, and a lot of free time to play.

After dinner, he grabbed his trusty DS for some Mario Party. I wanted to get a shot of him doing it. I loved the catchlights in his eyes and the fact that held still for me.

I'm not even sure I made contact with this prodigious swing. Thanks to Marci for the killer shot!

Our clothes dryer is acting up and not drying very well. I cleaned a bunch of lint out of it, as well as out of the exhaust tube, but it still failed to dry the clothes. We had a guy come and check it out and said it was 100% clogged, even after my cleaning.

I think it works now, but with the warm weather, we've been drying the clothes like we did in the old country.

I saw this bike on the way home from band tonight. It was up against the wall of the ol' Red Apple. Originally I was going to shoot my car under a street light, but this bike was a cooler subject.

Poor bike.

One of my favorite things makes another appearance on the blog. I had band practice tonight and got to take my old friend for a spin. Come to think of it, I think this month we will be celebrating 3 years together. And, come to think of it, in that time, I don't think I've changed the strings once.

Please pardon the dead skin flakes there on the bridge. It's pretty nasty.

Riley channeling his inner Indiana Jones. Though Indy was an archaeologist and apparently the study of fossils is paleontology. Oops.

He bought a National Geographic dinosaur excavation kit with some leftover Chinese New Year money today. After we got home, he spent about 1/2 an hour chiseling away at the fossil. The safety goggles are courtesy of Haley's old volcano science kit.

Side note: you can see under Rye's right eye a scratch. There's another one covered by the goggles. When I was in the shower yesterday, he got scratched by Bella.

Then today, he was running home in his flip-flops and he tripped on the driveway. His face ate it again and he has abrasions on his forehead, chin and knee.

Let's hope he doesn't mess up his face again anytime soon.

I took this picture because I was inspired by a website I saw. Tati Cycles is a company I had to call for work. They had some sweet pictures of bicycles on their blog/site. They were simple photos, usually of a bike against a wall, or perhaps a close shot of a sprocket or something.

Though my bike isn't against a wall, it is hanging from the ceiling. I thought this shot, no viewfinder, turned out pretty cool.

Haley is in summer camp at the Children's Museum in Factoria. It's theme is about engineering. This week, she's made a table out of newspaper, an capsule for an egg to drop in (her eggs were the only ones not to break!), a car out of recyclables and today's battery powered jitterbug.

I wanted to catch it in motion, which I did, but I didn't spend a lot of time preparing for the shot. After the night Marci and I had with the kids, I just didn't have an elaborate setup in me.

I scrambled around tonight to find something to shoot. I saw this little paper doll that my niece Chandler made for Marci and thought, hmm.

I put it on the edge of our love seat and took a few snaps but the face was too dark and all I had was a silhouette. I grabbed a nearby flashlight, aimed it at just out of frame and bounced a tiny light into her face.

Did I spell silhouette right?
