365/365
It's over!

I took this today on Vashon Island, right outside of their library. I had the kids go to the top of this hill while I stood below and told them to jump.

After going through the shots I took on this beautiful 12/31/10, I think their silhouettes really show how I feel about finishing this project.

For the past 365 days, I have taken at least one photo. Each one of those days, I have posted at least one photo to Flickr, Facebook, and my own P365 blog.

I did not miss a day and typically, I posted after 8pm.

I don't know how many thousands of photos I took this year, but over the course of them, I have learned a whole lot about photography.

Sad thing is, there is always so much more to learn!

I hope you had fun watching. I had fun shooting and learning and will continue, though probably not every day!

One more day. This was the frost on my deck this morning. The sun came through the railing and I thought it would be coooooool.

See you tomorrow, and

SO CLOSE I CAN TASTE IT.

This is a glass of jelly marbles that Haley got in a science kit for Xmas. We put these sesame seed size balls into water and, POOF, in hours, they turned into bubble tea jellies!

Only, they don't taste anything like them. They kind of taste like CHEMICALS.

That is, if I tasted one. Which I didn't. Not non-toxic, you know.

Ridiculous hair. I have not had a hair cut for months. It is a mess and completely unruly. And going gray.

Wow, that was a pain. Just for fun, I thought I'd download the free paint.net program, which is touted as an alternative to Photoshop/Elements.

Well, I'm sure it is, but hello, learning curve!

For a free program, it sure does appear powerful, but after using PSE7 for the past 12 months, I couldn't even find where the crop tool was without searching Google.

Anyway, Hay got an Easy Bake Oven yesterday and today it was all about cookies. I had to kept her occupied as her Papa (grandpa) had to make an unscheduled visit to the hospital for an appendectomy.

Good news is he's fine; bad news is he's got to stay here beyond what they had scheduled. We're happy to have them and hope to see him up and at 'em later this week.

I keep meaning to stop here for a quick pic, but work has interfered. Today, after a run to get a light bulb for Haley's new Easy Bake Oven, I remembered this place. I went home, grabbed the camera and snapped a few.

Marci made some molasses cookies yesterday. They were delicious.

As in "The Best Cookies She's Ever Made" delicious.

And they're even gluten free! Which for me, usually means crumbly and dry, but somehow she had some magic mix of flour that made everything Just Right.

So yummy, indeed!

Bella is not a yellow dog all of a sudden. We are dogsitting our friend's pup, Barkley. He drove all the way over from Leavenworth, so, naturally, he doesn't understand, "Sit," or, "come," unless you say it in Bavarian.

So I'm told.

As Bella sleeps at the foot of Haley's bed, Barquley (as I like to spell his name) sleeps on Bella's bed. I will sleep in Riley's bed and Rye will sleep on the futon downstairs.

It's a mess here.

None of the above is true, except for the dogsitting thing.

Go Seahawks!

I took Bella out this morning and since it was nice, I brought the camera. I tried to get her jumping as she loves to get air when I hold the Chuck-It over her head, but couldn't get the timing right.

Instead, I shot her standing still after playing fetch for a few minutes.

We put up Xmas stuff today. Or, more accurately, Marci and the kids did while I was at work.

Anyway, I closed down the aperture to make sure the shutter would be open a bit longer, then moved the camera. The ones with longer exposures were busier, but I liked this shorter one. The lights look like neon chilis.

Maybe not the best for the equipment, but it can lead to some nifty effects.

Crossroads with the kids to sell "sell" some books to Half-Price Books.  We took a bunch of kids books, maybe 40 in total and were offered a whopping $3.75 for the lot.

Of course, we took the cash.

This shot looked cool in my mind. Via the BB, though, not so much. That trail of white in the top middle are those hideous icicle lights that were so trendy a few years ago. It may have looked cool in the shot had I not shot them straight on, but I felt geeky enough holding the phone up that I just took the one shot and split.

Marci and I had a hot date tonight which consisted of pho and a trip to Southcenter, or whatever fancy name they call it these days.

Basically we were kid free for a few hours, bought some gifts. This shot is of 3 copies of a book called The Redbreast, by the Norwegian author, Jo Nesbo. I was lucky enough to come across one of his other books, The Devil's Star, at our local library a few months ago and, after reading that, had to seek out Nesbo's other books.

Do yourself a favor: check out Nesbo if you're into mystery/thrillers (think Michael Connelly, Steig Larssen). I would even venture to type that Nesbo's books are better than those by the aforementioned.

After the wet snow this morning, we all went outside and made some snowmen. The snow rolled great and cleared these wide green paths of grass. It was quite the workout too, rolling those huge snowballs.

We signed up for rock climbing classes at the South Bellevue Community Center. After working on knots and learning how to belay, it was the kids' turn to climb. Haley motored right up the side of this wall (33 feet!) like it was a ladder. I belayed her for a bit, then Tom the proprietor took over while I snapped pix.

This shot was taken from a landing about 1/3 of the way up the wall. If I'd shot from the floor, it'd be hard to see her at all.

A friend of mine from HS works there and she said that a lot of kids get up there and then freak out and cry. Hay? Nope.

She...
