90/365My doctor says I need to lower my blood pressure so instead of reading at lunch and breaks I took a few power walks. Here's our fire lane at work.

88/365Haley has been devouring the Harry Potter books. On Sunday, we hit up two Half-Price books looking for HP4 and couldn't find it used in paperback. Then I checked Craigslist and found someone selling all 7 books, new in shrinkwrap for $35. That's $5/book!

I picked it up for her today and think it'll make a fab birthday present for her next month. Keep it secret!

87/365This is Haley one year ago today. To my eyes, she pretty much looks the same. She has changed a lot, though. She's gotten a lot better at keeping her temper/attitude in check lately; our conflicts have been down quite a bit.

She's also taken a shine to the piano. Apparently she's the best in her class and tomorrow is her first recital. I think she'll do great (I won't see it though; gotta work) but she's being a little tenative about it.

Anyway, she's a hoot and I love her dearly.

We went to an old, decrepit mall today. The mall had two tenants and the rest was empty. Sort of creepy and sad all at once.

After a few birthday parties today we ended up staying at home all afternoon due to inclement weather. Plus my allergies are really killing me so me and Rye found some time to geek out.

I had just headed downstairs to mine the archives for today's picture when Marci grabbed me and said, "I have your picture of the day." So I headed back upstairs. The kids had an assembly line of sandwich making set up and Hay was teaching Riley how to make sandwiches.

It was semi-successful.

Incidentally, last weekend at a friend's party, we met another couple with a son and daughter named Riley and Haley. And, coincidentally, the dad played a mean bass as well.

Huh!

Last year when I was unemployed, we became acquainted with our local food bank.

They helped us out quite a bit and this is a shot of the doorway.

If you have food that is going unused, donate it to your local food bank. It really does help!

I put these old band CDs on my desk about 2 weeks ago.

And they're still in the same spot.

I guess I should clean my desk.

Yesterday we went to my friend Rob's (and his wife, Tomoko's) baby shower. One of the games was to guess Rob's weight when he was born. Another was to guess the number of gummy bears in a bottle.

I guessed 714 gummy bears. The actual was 739. The winner guessed 720.

I did not win.

For Rob's weight, I guessed 10lb,.7oz. Riley guessed 8lb. Rob's baby weight was 8lb, 4oz. And guess what?

Riley won!

He was so "porked" (our family's running joke; Riley says "perked" and it sounds like "porked") up about it, winning those marshmallow poles.

Today after a friend's baby shower, we came home to no precipitation so Hay and I took Bella out back for about 20 minutes of vigorous Chuck-It. After we came in, Bella passed out on her "cooling off" ledge.

Another shot from last year. I was unemployed and spent the better part of a morning playing with self-portrait shots.

I think I look the same; the hair is getting long again. Face is just about as round. More grey at the temples these days...

I got home tonight and Rye had a bloody mouth. He didn't crash his bike this time, but his tooth was hanging on, just barely. Marci nosed around in there and was able to yank it out.

It was loose already, but it got a boost when Rye and Hay were playing. Apparently he bit down on a blanket and Haley tried to pull it out of his mouth. Well, she succeeded, and totally hastened the loosening of his tooth.

I told him to smile; this was the best he could do.

What a dork!

Today was my uncle's funeral. Growing up, he lived at our house for several years. He worked at my dad's store as well.

Over the years, he had a falling out with my dad and sort of struck out on his own. I tried thinking the last time I saw him and I think it was over 15 years ago.

Anyway, he passed away a few weeks ago from a heart attack in Taiwan. His memorial ceremony was today and I stuffed myself into my suit to attend.

When they were putting my uncle's ashes into the ground, this gentleman was standing off to the side. I don't know if he was a friend of my uncle's or not, but his glasses and black coat meant I had to get a shot. I held my phone upside-down at my side and clicked a few.

To an uncle I used to know, rest well.

For some odd reason, Riley got into some popsicle sticks today, taped about 4 end to end, and wanted me to tape them to his face for a moustache.

It was clumsy.

I told him I had a much easier solution. I drew a rough outline and told him to color it.

There you go.

In other news, I need to relearn how to focus. :(

Back in November, the lease to our car was up. We decided not to buy it and were going to buy a used, much less expensive car. We test drove a Hyundai Tuscon that was about 3 years old and though it was ok, it was a little small and smelly.

Right next to it was this beast of a TrailBlazer, red with bling-bling aftermarket rims on it. We test drove it and liked it enough and a few hours later, we took it home.

It's an 03 and has issues an eight year old car might have, but aside from that, and the small fortune it costs to fill it (thankfully regular!), we've been pretty happy with it.

Haley had a tube put in her ear today. They called it "surgery" but from what I understand, they give her ear a little slit, put in a rice-grain sized tube, and it's all done.

Anyway, here are her bracelets. Not sure what she's allergic to, but I think I should find out. Or perhaps I should already know?

Maybe they gave us the wrong daughter back????
